Sheldon Green's 35mm Film Archive

My father was an avid photographer, heavily influenced by Ansel Adams. I remember him buying a 4x5 view camera and working to master it. He turned our bathroom into a darkroom and Julie and I both got involved with producing our own works. Among his effects I found his archive of 35mm negatives that he'd taken spanning well before we were born through our early adolescences. I had no way to view negatives, but recently I decided to have them professionally scanned. I then found and worked with Knut Grossman at Legacy Archive to do the job. We worked closely so that we could extract the most data and for him to do the initial restoration. I worked from there to improve the image quality and otherwise prepare the best ones for publication here. The work runs from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s. Of course it is deeply meaningful to me but it is also a fascinating view into a pivotal time in the history of civil rights in America.
