I saw someone posted this thread on the /r/Cubers subreddit. I'm assuming
it's someone on this list. Anyone else see this?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/comments/7e0hi8/allowing_4d_2x2_and_4d_3x3_cubes_in_official/

I'm not sure how quickly people can speed solve the 3x3 but the 2x2 could
be feasible if people brought their own computer, though I'm not sure there
is a way to generate the same scramble for each competitor.

Is that possible Melinda?

Hello Ty,

Thank you for the reference. People are already solving the 3^4 fast enough to be practical but I'm pretty sure the cubing contest folks won't be very warm to to the idea of including virtual puzzles. If they are, then there would naturally be cheating concerns if people were allowed to use their own hardware. If they wanted to do it anyway and want to use mobile devices, it might be possible to use scanners to extract and load scrambles from QR codes projected onto a screen or something.

Hopefully the physical 2^4 puzzle could avoid all the issues of virtual puzzles. I sure would love to see people speedsolving mine.

It'd be a bit tough to regulate that, too, right? That has specific ways
you can move it that are legal that people would need to watch for during
solves. Not sure how well that would work either :/

For the physical puzzle, I imagine that the set of allowed moves would just=
be set before any competition. Judges would be watching, and video could s=
ettle disputes.
