Hello friends,

I just got a random catalog in the mail with the cover photo showing a
set of dodecahedra that can be stuck to each other at their faces. See
http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/product/productDet.jsp?bmUID=1377993480517

I have to imagine that curious kids will notice that they
almost-but-not-quite fill space and wonder why not. Truncated octahedra
would have been a better choice but I like the teachable moment that the
dodecahedra create.

Best,
-Melinda

Either the makers thought that dodecahedra looked cool, or they didn't
research about space-tiling polyhedra, or they believed that they were
actually living in 4d space and wanted to build 120-cells. O:

Third option is best option, I mean if it gets any better they'll add
rhombicosidodecahedra and other stuff onto it for cantellated 120-cell
spam. :D
