Hi Roice,
I put the nice picture of "MT skew 20 v200" on Facebook and an artist is fa=
scinated and wants make a much better rendering if he could have the corres=
ponding vrml file. I think that MagicTile doesn't allow the export of the a=
ctual picture in a vrml file.
Best regards
Ed

Hi Ed,

Yeah, MagicTile currently has no export functionality (to vrml, stl, etc.).
A quick google search showed that vrml does support textures, so it might
not be that difficult to add. I'll write you offline, and see what exactly
your artist friend needs.

happy holidays,
Roice

Hey, that's pretty cool, Ed! Several times when using MT I felt the
image would look great on one of my walls. Maybe Roice could add a
simple "high resolution" option which would use higher resolution
textures and tessellate curved polygons much finer? It would be very
slow to use in that mode but you could just turn it on and off as needed
so speed wouldn't matter much. And while I'm dreaming up more work for
Roice, there could even be a high-res output command that would output a
PNG, JPG or other image at say twice the screen resolution. Then I might
really print some images, especially in 3D.

:)

I like the idea of a hi-res screen capture feature. Right now, the
textures generated and pasted on the faces are 512x512, but I bet these
could probably safely go up to 2048x2048 for a capture functionality. I
already have code that can save to png, jpg, etc. at larger sizes too.

As an alternative to making the mesh finer, it's possible to calculate
normals in a way to make lighting appear smooth without increasing the mesh
density. I have a recollection that this was going to be less performant
and more troublesome coding-wise. I remember it was easier to convince
myself the faceted appearance looked cooler :)

Anyway, I started experimenting with trello for
manage tasks. I setup a board for
MagicTile,
and added some other recent requests to it, as well as this one
(here).
I was hoping for a feature voting mechanism, but it looks like people can
vote on items only if added to the project. Maybe it's overkill to try to
publicly prioritize tasks on a single-dev hobby project anyway.

seeya,
Roice
