Subject: First Hyperspeedcubing Challenge

For the first contest we have to do a little freestyle here and not
discuss it to much.

All competitors should gather at some time on some multiplatform
comunicator and confirm their presens. At some time Melinda uploads the
file with the scamble and moment of pasting the link to its location
triggers the clock. Everybody starts with all macros one wishes to have.
First contest should be the most simplest and shortest. The stress can
easily ruin the whole solve by overwritting the log (and somebody could
give up losing the file just before the end). It is important to get
used to to some own rules of saving files and working on it under the
pressure. It would be nice if everybody could confirm finalizing some
stages through the comunicator along solving (For sure I will type "2C",
"3C", and "Solved" after I'm done with this stages, and when it comes
for other methods one can write: "1 L" for first layer, "2 L" for middle
layer, final face left, whatever...). "Drag and drop" technology would
be handy to update the logs or just sending the final file, and it will
be good way to read of the time of the solve, which will be time of
returning the file to Melinda.

I propose to figure out the details by the excel file:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjSunS8HRVh4dDA1cEEwZ0owYmR0dnVTRWFweGNFcFE&hl=en&authkey=CNing-8J

a)participants b) timezones c) date and exact time d) preferred
communicator e) name of the contest :)

It's really good idea to give it a try before the contest and give
approximate time of your solve for organization reasons.

After first "Challenge" we can all discuss the form of next contest (no
macros, timers, other cubes) to make it more professional!

Best,
Remi

While I don't think I'll be participating in this contest, I thought I'd
share with you something I came across a while ago:
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/meeting-planner.aspx
This tool lets you select multiple time zones / locations and helps you
figure out convenient times for everyone to meet.

1. I really don't wish to type. (o.o) sry bout that.
2. After the log is posted, open it and get 30sec inspection time.
3. msn can get webcam chat. 3-2-1 should be said then everyone starts.
4. just keep on solving!
5. returning and getting file as part of time is weird...It'll slow down
stuff.

I like the idea of a test run though even that may be difficult
enough. I also like the idea of real-time communication on a chat
system. We talked about doing that before for a 2^4 contest in which
even seconds might matter. It may not be as important for larger puzzles
but I'm willing to try. Since we know that everyone has a Yahoo account,
I think the platform should be the Yahoo IM. Let's try to all get into
the same chat session to see how it works for all the participants.
Lurkers will be welcome too. If all goes well we can attempt our first
contest. If it fails, we can just declare it to be a test run.

I also like Anthony's idea of using a shared spreadsheet for scheduling.
I was thinking of something like that too but am still not sure how best
to do that. I was thinking of proposing 3 or more dates, times, puzzles,
and macro rules and letting everyone vote on their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
choices for each; plus the ability to veto dates and times that are
impossible for them. If more than one date/time combination is possible
for everyone then we take the most popular combination. I've added a
second table to Anthony's spreadsheet
.
Try entering your data into both tables and let's see what works.

OK then 18:00 UTC it is. This way two participants get their first
choice times while you and I only need to compromise a little. Thanks
for being flexible.

Remember everyone, we'll do a dress rehersal this Saturday at 18:00.
Spectators are welcome for both events. Actually I'd really appreciate
general attendendence this Saturday since I'll need at least one or two
people to at least pretend to solve a 2^4 just to iron out the process.
Those planning to do the real thing the following weekend have a good
reason to do the practice just to make it as likely as possible for it
to go smoothly for them when it matters. Note that cheating will be
allowed and even encouraged at the dress rehearsal just to make it more
fun. ;-) Just log into YIM and message me as cutelyaware. You might even
be able to use MSN or other chat clients but you'll need to figure out how.

Happy cubing!
