Hi to all!

Audrey and Andras: ("In the spirt of taking things too far" x 2) good
job to both of you!

I agree to keep the track of the shortest for 5^4 on my page (starting
from next week).

I also would like to update 3^4 shortest, but lately I've lost the track
:) In my opinion using computers to get solutions for some minor steps
was ok, just like taking some algorithms from the internet to find
better pll on classic cube and later translate this on 4D language.

"4D/5D Shortest" competition, so far, is just pushing human limits, NOT
the regular challenge(like the fewest moves on the championships).

You can count on me on hyperspeedcubing contest: 3^4 will be very good
choice to start.(I think that Matusz Burnicki will join as well). Let's
finally do it, let's say: in 2 weeks from now? :P

All the best,
Remi

OK, well Remi has thrown down the gauntlet. Who else would like to
take a crack at the first 3^4 hyperspeedsolving contest? Saturday the
18th sounds like a fine day to do it. That will give everyone ample time
to practice your techniques. So who else will step up to the challenge?
If you want to join but that date doesn't work for you, please just
propose another date. Once there are at least 3 confirmed participants
we can work out an exact time and set of rules. If 5 or more people
agree to give it their best shot I'll even create an official prize
t-shirt for the winner!

I vote for 3^4, no macros. Or may be 3^5, with prepared macro file - but th=
ere will be less number of potential participants. I'm not sure about 18th =
- my presence on the Net depends on weather in Moscow, but I hope that nigh=
t will be cold and I'll return from "dacha" before the start of contest.

Good to see another contestant deustfrr, the more people we have taking par=
t the more fun it is :). I think the idea putting a timer into the softwar=
e will help things run smoothly in cases where people have similar times, n=
ot sure how easy it would be for the programmers, but I wouldn't think it w=
ould be difficult (I need to learn some useful programming one day, so if a=
nyone can tell me what language was used for these puzzles it would be appr=
eciated, but I digress). Chat would be interesting, and searching the prev=
ious messages I found Remi (I think) suggesting we use it to co-ordinate th=
e competition, which could work well. What chat software would be best? I=
don't know much about these, I personally use MSN but it should be easy to=
set up an account for something like Skype if necessary.

I think I will be using MC7D (piece finding is good), so I wonder how the s=
cramble will be made available? Can we make a single scramble and change t=
he software so both MC4D and MC7D will accept it? Can the same scramble be=
made for both formats and supplied simultaneously for both programs? Or i=
s it safe to have 2 separate full scrambles made available? Also, will the=
scrambles be added to the files in the group, emailed to all the competito=
rs at the same time, or sent using the chat software (if used)? After more=
thought and some trial solves, I think it is best to allow macros made bef=
ore the contest, but obviously we need to decide as a group. I know I keep=
rambling on about these things, but if I don't know what's happening I'm l=
ikely to mess something up (and yet I'm fairly disorganised).

I think we should start organising the time, so I suggest all competitors s=
ay which time zone they are in (or what one they will be competing in). I'=
m UTC+1.

UTC-5, EST.
Anyways, I think macros should be prepared for 3^4, but only if it's over 8=
moves. (I still like the idea of prepared macros, no restrictions)=20
BTW Skype lags my computer so I uninstalled, and I have YIM, MSN, And Gmail=
Chat. gmailchat doesn't lag your computer because it's online stuff.
MC7D can be used? well...that's different. Are you sure not to use the same=
thing? Add me on MSN deustfrr...
